The construction project in Russia of the future RusVinyl vinyl production unit (SolVin-Sibur 50/50 joint venture) marked a key stage on 12th July with the laying of the first stone. The official ceremony took place in the presence of Jean-Louis Plumecocq, CEO of RusVinyl, Dimitry Konov, Chairman of Sibur, and a number of authorities and VIPs, including Yves Leterme, Prime Minister of Belgium. 25 juni, 2010Solvay and Arkema to untie vinyls production joint ventures in France and Spain. Solvay announces today that SolVin and Arkema have decided to each buy back the minority cross-holdings in the vinyls production joint ventures that are operated by them. The companies in question are VinylFos, in which SolVin has a stake of 21%, VinylBerre (35%) and Vinilis (65%). These decisions will become effective as from July 1st, 2010. [EN]-[FR]

Solvay Indupa has recently approved a further USD 135 million investment program to expand and increase the competitiveness of its vinyls production plant of Santo Andre, Brazil. This second stage of expansion comprises the creation of an integrated plant to produce ethylene with ethanol originating from sugar cane. Ethylene is one of the two main feedstocks needed to manufacture polyvinyl chloride (PVC) - together with chlorine, which is produced through a salt-based electrolysis process. [EN]
