Solvay displays its products at the Brasilplast fair 2007.

At the Brasilplast fair, Solvay displays the company’s products and their practical applications to its customers.

A place to build closer relationships.

A 300sqm wide area was taken up by Solvay Indupa, Solvay Química and Solvay Solexis at Brasilplast, the International Fair of the Plastic Industry held in May at the Anhembi Exhibition Pavilion in the city of São Paulo.

With the coordination of Indupa and support from Solvay do Brazil’s Corporate Communication Department, this year the space design was mainly focused on presenting the innovations to come off Solvay’s polymer lines with their actual applications in customers’ products. “Brasilplast is not a place for business, but a place to welcome customers in a pleasant atmosphere and thus build closer relationships”, says Édison Carlos, Solvay Indupa’s Business Promotion Manager.

The Solvay space was also designed to converge towards the partners’ interests. The motto Inovar é Crescer com o Cliente translated the expansion Solvay Indupa is currently experiencing, whose success is hinged on customer growth. The motto was chosen in an internal survey and reflects the synergy between Indupa, its customers and its partners.

This year at Brasilplast, Solvay Química exhibited the “Solvay Spire”, an ultra-performance polymers family. Display windows showcased technical breakthroughs and experts at stands presented the innovations made possible by this last-generation product. The investments Solvay has been making in this sophisticated line point to the potential growth on this market. “Market consolidation will take longer, but the customers attending Brasilplast showed keen interest in finding out about and exploring these materials in their own products”, says Alexandre Guimarães, Solvay Química’s Special Polymers Regional Manager for South America.

Solexis’ exhibition at Brasilplast targeted fluorinated polymers (SOLEF®, HALAR®, HYFLON® and ALGOFLON®), which are used in the most demanding applications in the Chemical Processing, Gas & Oil and Automotive industries. Special emphasis was put on the promotion of a new line of additives (TECNOFLON™ NM pellets and powder and SOLEF® 11010) used as polymer processing aids in the polyolefin’s production and processing.

“Our enhanced visibility is the biggest achievement of the event. This is evidenced by the numbers of new prospects interested in discovering and evaluating our products”, comments Massimo Scicchitano, CEO of Solvay Solexis for South America. “Solvay has the broadest specialty polymers portfolio”, adds Scicchitano.

A 50-year history of Solvay PVC Brazil.

A critical product for basic sanitation and housing.

In 2007, Solvay Indupa is celebrating 50 years of PVC production in Santo André, Brazil, and took advantage of Brasilplast to tell the history of one of the oldest plants in Latin America.

The celebration during Brasilplast was how Solvay Indupa wanted to share a very special moment with its customers, its partners and the media. “The PVC market in Brazil is growing at a rate of one and a half time national GDP”, says Business Promotion Manager Édison Carlos.

PVC is a commodity and is also extensively used in civil construction. With the stabilization of the Brazilian economy, PVC has become a critical product to spread basic sanitation and housing initiatives. “PVC definitely goes hand in hand with quality of life”, says Édison Carlos.

Expert studies show that each R$ 1 invested in basic sanitation saves R$ 5 on public health. PVC, a versatile multi-use product, helps to overcome Brazil’s shortcomings and is also used in the medical field, in blood bags and catheters, among many other examples. “Even Nasa develops PVC-based clothes to simulate a spatial environment in swimming pools”, says the manager.
