SolVin, a European leader in PVC, and Eurosak, a European leading company in packaging material, are launching a brand new environmentally-friendly packaging concept in Europe, after successful industrial trials and positive ecological appraisal.
The global concept includes the selection of an appropriate PVC resin, the formulation, the blowing process for the film, the formation of the bags, and the use of the famous FFS technology (Form, Fill, Seal). This totally new bag in PVC has been conceived to be suitable for existing automatic bagging lines.
This new “100% PVC Bag” brings a clear competitive and ecological advantage and will probably, step by step, replace other industrial packaging types.
This innovation is indeed providing the industry with a more environment-friendly option for PVC packaging recycling. After use, the PVC bags will be collected using the traditional collection systems and, because the bags are not contaminated by other polymers, recycling becomes much simpler. Recyclate could then be reused in a close loop for PVC bags production, but also in many other applications (Compounding, etc.).
SolVin was set up in 1999, when Solvay and Basf joined their competences in the vinyls sector. Solvay owns 75% and Basf the remaining 25%. The synergies achieved in know-how and organization, the complementarity of product ranges as well as upstream integration have built up SolVin as a leader on the PVC and PVDC markets. The joint-venture has operations in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Benelux countries and a total capacity of some 1.3 million tonnes of PVC.
SolVin generated consolidated sales of €.1.1 billion in 2002, with 2,100 employees.
