A New European Organisation: "PVC 4 Pipes" Encouraging Durable PVC Pipe Systems
"Encouraging the further development and market position of durable PVC pipe systems worldwide" - this is the motto of the "PVC 4 Pipes" organisation, announced for the first time last week. This new European organisation was formed by the principal participants in the development and production of PVC pipes and pipe systems: manufacturers of machinery, producers of raw materials and additives, pipe systems manufacturers and professional associations.
"PVC 4 Pipes" is based on specialist working parties in the fields of innovation and standardisation, as well as promotion and presentation at trade fairs and conferences.
These groups meet regularly, coordinated by the Director of the Association, Ole Kristian Hagen (of Hydro Polymers). Hagen is also responsible for daily management tasks, subject to supervision of the association. The Executive Board consists of eight members, all representing the branches of industry involved. The Chairman of the Executive Board is Bruno van der Wielen, Business Manager for S-PVC at SolVin.
"There is no doubt", says Bruno van der Wielen, "that this new organisation will mark the opening of a new era in the market development of PVC pipe systems." 2.1 million tons of PVC per year are used for the production of pipes for drinking water, used waters, cable sleeves and sheathing, gas pipelines, irrigation, drainage and rain water conduits at the present time. PVC pipes owe their success to their high durability, facility of installation, low maintenance costs and recycling potential.
